JEANNIE WITH THE BOTTLE
05:07
|
|||
It’s 10:19 on Thursday morning
and I ain’t barely woke from bed
Good-time pains all in my body
And good-time fog all in my head
There’s a place I spend my time now
Down here in Cankerstown, VA
Run by a goddess dressed in denim
It’s where I start and end my days
She’s my Jeannie with the bottle
She makes my wishes all come true
Numbs my blues before I’ve even got em --
Lord have mercy! What’s a man to do?
It’s awful hard to change direction
It’s harder still to walk the line
When I get my pint of potion
I close my eyes and feel I’m flying
Well, all us locals know the story
Of what put us each in here
We don’t need no magic 8-ball
To tell us where we’ll be next year
She’s my Jeannie with the bottle
She makes my wishes all come true
Numbs my blues before I’ve even got em --
Lord have mercy. What’s a man to do?
She’s my Jeannie with the bottle
She makes my wishes all come true
Numbs my blues before I’ve even got em.
Lord, have mercy.

LAURA
03:40
|
|||
Now it is dark and it is warm and the cars on 95 sound like
a thunderstorm.
With my day much did I do so well deserved is my glass of beer and plate of food.
Laura, leave a light on and I will soon be home.
It's hard for me each day to leave you all alone.
Laura, when I park the car I hope to find you there
with nothing on but curlers in your hair.
Were it not for this road I ride I would not have to spend another solitary night.
There's nothing left rattling in my mind but a gamble that this old soul might get
satisfied.
Laura leave a light on and I will soon be home --
but, then again, it all depends on how the wind will blow.
Laura, can you feed the dogs before you fall asleep?
Or will you still be waiting up for me?
Laura, leave a light on. I will soon be home. It's critical I find a way to you, I know.
Laura -- if your mother calls, don't tell her where I've been.
I don't ever want to sing this song again.

GOODNIGHT, IRENE
02:52
|
|||
Last Saturday night I got married; me and my wife settled down.
Now me and my wife have parted. I'm going to take a little stroll downtown.
Sometimes I live in the country, sometimes I live in town.
Sometimes I take a great notion to jump in the river and drown.
Irene, goodnight [....] I'll see you in my dreams.
